Hello,
As promised, I’m going to post throughout this year about the blocks in my Posies Puzzles quilt. If you haven’t seen this quilt yet, it’s being offered as a block-of-the-month at quilt stores around the country. If you can’t find it locally, leave a message here and I’ll connect you with some shops.
Here’s the quilt:
It features my Prettiful Posies fabric line.
You can purchase just the fabrics here.
The quilt is a “puzzle” quilt because each month you cut two sets of the same block units and then arrange them differently to create two blocks. Once the quilt is set together, the puzzle becomes identifying which blocks have the same units.
I created this quilt as a skill-builder. The first blocks are really easy & have simple squares and rectangles so you can practice your piecing and get comfortable cutting and sewing. As we progress through the year, I’ll add different types of triangle units. There are no set-in seams or tricky cutting so a beginner can definitely jump in to this project!
So the first pair of blocks use these fabrics:
I discovered that Aurifil thread shade 6727 is the MOST amazing neutral ever so I’m using it to piece my blocks.
First, I cut the two sets of block pieces.
Then it’s time to arrange them in the various layouts.
For this block there’s actually a third option that technically works:
Look carefully–do yo use what’s different?
The best part of Posies Puzzles is there is NO wrong answer–you can play with the block components and create your own version of any of the blocks. Because I only used 2 fabrics in this block, there are fewer options, but down the road, you’ll see that the 2 blocks I show you in the pattern are just the beginning of what you can create with each set of block units.
Here are my finished blocks:
I’ll be back soon with the next pair.
If you have any questions about the pattern, please email me directly via the contact link on my website or leave a comment here.
