Playing with fabric combos is hand-down my favorite part of quilting. I can legit spend hours auditioning pieces, never sew a thing and be perfectly happy with the day’s work.
As I talked with Yvonne about fabric requirements for her quilt, of course I wanted to learn more so I could play along.
She made this jaw-dropping version of the quilt using my Dandy Days and A Shout, a whisper, a Text fabrics.
And, I knew Yvonne had mad quilting skills, but look at this–absolutely amazing what 1/4″ crosshatching can do to a relatively simple top.
So, when it was time to select my own fabric combo to sew along, I knew I wanted to use at least one of my own prints in the quilt. I have always loved the this turquoise version of my Got Grids print so I started with it.
This quilt is all about value so I decided to begin by making this print my Fabric B, the medium value. Make sure to go get the fabric requirements now so you know what fabrics go where! Step one was to find a background/light and that was surprisingly easy. I love dandelions (hence the whole Dandy Days line about them) so this print from Flow by Zen Chic was an easy pick
Finding the perfect dark is proving to be much harder.
I love all of these choices:
The top two are Alison Glass prints, the third one is a Moda Grunge.
So, which combo should I go with?
Comments & input are welcome!
Did I mention I have kits available if you want to make the pink version just like Yvonne’s that I shared at the top of this post? Get one here!
Can’t wait to see what fabrics YOU pick for the quiltalong!

All three have good light, medium, and dark contrast when I convert the images to Black and White. I personally like the grunge option the best because it has an interesting print transition as well (loose, denser, near solid).

I love the dandelion print. The grunge is my favorite choice it has color variation, but no additional print to compete with;the others.

personally, i love the second one down. I find the darker value wiTh the flYinG insects and birds to be an interesting print and i would enjoy sEeing it In thIs styleof Quilt. I think it lends additional motion as wEll, along With the dandElions.🙂
