Hello,
I’m back with block 3 of the I Love Home quiltalong hosted by Jacquelynne Steves.
First, welcome to my new blog. I finally took the plunge & moved to a self-hosted format. I’ll be able to offer lots of cool new features here and I hope you’ll follow me & sign up for notices about my posts.
When I first opened the pattern for this month I saw that it included half-rectangle units, not the traditional half-square triangle units and I gotta admit, I was a little skeptical.
HRTs add so much flair to quilt blocks. But, they can be challenging to make accurately.
I’m thrilled to report that Jaquelynne has created an amazing tutorial and her method yields perfectly accurate units with sharp points!
Go watch the video on how to make this happen with your own block!
Word of advice: You’ll see that the video suggests using freezer paper at one point. I was trying to rush because I had several competing deadlines so I thought “Oh, I can just use some copy paper & adapt.”
Not a good idea–I ended up mis-cutting and having to start over.
So, follow the tutorial & video & you’ll have success.
I used my Olfa Splash rotary cutter with an Endurance blade to cut this block. For years my go-to cutter was the Olfa 60 mm. When I heard about the Endurance blade, I wondered if it really would last longer & if it could cut as many layers as my 60 mm. I’m thrilled to report that the hype is true–the blade lasts (almost!) forever. And I can easily cut just as many layers with it.
Here’s my finished block. This month I chose to highlight the bee in my fussy-cut center.
Have you joined the Facebook group for this quiltalong?

I love the churn and dash !
Aw, this was a very nice post. In idea I wish to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… however what can I say… I procrastinate alot and by no means appear to get something done.
The root of your writing whilst sounding agreeable originally, did not sit properly with me personally after some time. Someplace throughout the sentences you actually were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a while. I however have a problem with your jumps in assumptions and one might do nicely to fill in all those breaks. If you can accomplish that, I could certainly be impressed.
